Horror In The Bylanes

Love a good scare? Catch this series of urban horror flicks set in the city from the perspective of an outsider, playing every Wednesday in a wholesome new café in what is essentially the new Hauz Khas Village {read: Shahpur Jat}. Through its narrative of ‘modernity’, the films create estrangement and terror through their disconnected and disruptive facade of advancement.

The city as a location, with its offices, apartments, metro stations and places of worship, is explored in the screenings as well as the discussions that follow.

Singapore Film Festival

The third Singapore Film Festival, organised by the Singapore High Commission in association with the Habitat Film Club, showcases three phenomenal films over three days by some of the most creative Singaporean filmmakers, who will also be in attendance and available for discussion. Entry is free.

Alliance Française Ciné Club

This French film club will help you harness the pretentious critic within you. No, we’re only joking, this venture by Alliance Française is a fun way to learn about a foreign culture.

Their movies, screened at the language centre in Lodi Estate, are put on every few days and are definitely worth a visit. Their upcoming film Max et Lenny deals with an unlikely friendship, and creative outlets as a coping mechanism. Keep up with them on Tuesdays and Thursdays to attend their sessions.

Italian Film Festival

An initiative by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura {Institute of Italian Culture} of New Delhi, this screening of a series of Italian movies will show you a good time while also widening your horizons. With their string of venues—showing Perez at India Habitat Centre on Jul 25, Buorgiorno Papa at IHC on Jul 26, Caterina Va In Città at the institute in Chanakyapuri on the Jul 27, and Mi Chiamo Maya at Siri Fort Auditorium on Aug 1— the institute celebrates Italy and Italian culture.

IHC Film Club

The prestigious Habitat Film Club, started in 2000, puts on several films every year, from profound to entertaining, both mainstream and avant-garde, and also organises interactive sessions with renowned directors, actors, producers and more. A membership with them is a fantastic opportunity to be exposed to a variety of cinema from India and around the world.

Their upcoming film screenings include Premier of the Smile {Jul 29} and Brief Life of Insects {Jul 30}.
