Ten Second Takeaway

We decided to check out the nondescript Big Bongg Theory restaurant in Shahpur Jat, and were happily surprised. It’s official, you no longer need to visit CR Park to enjoy scrumptious and authentic Bengali food in Delhi.

Of theories and theorems

While The Big Bang Theory explains the creation of the universe, The Big Bongg Theory restaurant explains the heavenly delight that is Bengali cuisine. They serve up a variety of Bengali delicacies, which will leave you with your stomach full yet asking for more. The emphasis in this unpretentious, small restaurant is truly on the food, seeing as the chef herself comes to personally take your order.

Foodie paradise

There are a range of starters including a variety of Bengali chops, boras and devils. For main courses they offer a full set meal, as well as a make your own non-veg/veg platter. Non-veg dishes include Bengali classics like the Rohu Fish simmered in a creamy yogurt-based sauce, and the Duck Egg Curry. We recommend the Prawn Malai Curry, if you're on the lookout for other classic Bengali seafood dishes. Veg dishes include delicacies such as Raw Banana Kofta and Aloo Posto. {Seriously, our mouths are watering as we type this}.

Tea time tales

The Big Bongg Theory also functions as a tea room. They have Single-Garden teas sourced straight from gardens of Darjeeling. Some teas included are from the Castleton as well as Jungpana Estates. Between 4pm and 7pm, they serve a High Tea with Bengali Accessories. This includes a set meal of tea/coffee, a Fish/Chicken cutlet, Egg Devil, Beet Chop, Dal Bora, and a slice of cake. For vegetarians the set meal is the same, with the cutlet replaced by a Leaf Bora.

Whether you’re taking a break from shopping in Shahpur Jat, or just craving a new Bengali eatery, The Big Bongg Theory merits a visit.
