Malayalam star Dulquer Salmaan has made quite an impression on Indian cinema. Whether it's Karwaan or Mahanati — we've thoroughly enjoyed him on screen. If you're interested in exploring his movies, here's an ultimate Dulquer Salmaan movie list and no, this list doesn't have The Zoya Factor, for all the right factors.

Ustad Hotel

Ustad Hotel is one of the first Dulquer Salmaan movies that we watched. Directed by Anwar Rasheed (of Premam, Trance, and Bangalore Days fame) and written by Anjali Menon, this movie explores a rather endearing relationship between Fayzee (Dulquer) and his grandpa. When Fayzee expresses his interest to be a chef, his father forces him to handle their family business. Succeeding this, Fayzee escapes to India and helps his grandpa run his beachside Ustad Hotel. Grab a few tissues and watch this one with your fam.

Varane Avashyamund

When Netflix added Varane Avashyamund to its catalog, we binge-watched it and god, it was hilarious! Apart from Dulquer, this movie stars Shobhana, Suresh Gopi, and Kalyani Priyadarshan. When Bibish (Dulquer) moves into Shobhana and Kalyani's (mother-daughter duo) apartments, they get acquainted. Set in Chennai, Nikitha (Kalyani) is obsessed with arranged marriages, and her feisty single mother, Neena is a French teacher who falls in love with Suresh Gopi, an army veteran. It's a simple story with subtle nuances of society, life, and loss.

OK Kanmani

We watched OK Bangaram (the Telugu version of OK Kanmani) and fell in love with Maniratnam's craft for the hundredth time. Like every Maniratnam character ever — Dulquer and Nitya Menon are two complex characters with several layers. Tara and Aditya completely believe that marriages are pointless and move in together with an old couple — Prakash Raj and Leela Samson. Everything changes from there. Every bit fresh and adventurous, a couple that's seeking different things in life eventually fall back together. Adding to this, AR Rahman's music is so magical.

Bangalore Days

We cannot tell you the number of times we watched Bangalore Days. Written and directed by Anjali Menon, this movie introduced us to Fahadh Faasil, Nazriya Nazim, Nivin Pauly, Parvathi Menon. Three cousins — Divya (Nazriya), Aju (Dulquer), and Kuttan (Nivin Pauly) move to Bangalore, each of them explore life from a different perspective. If you love watching coming of age movies, add this Malayalam movie to your watchlist.

Solo

Solo truly isn't everyone's cup of tea. A collection of four elements — fire, water, wind, and earth, Solo has four stories. All the stories have Dulquer Salmaan as its protagonist. A well-put together performances from different actors, this movie is for you if you enjoy watching layered characters and stories. Directed by Bejoy Nambiar, grab some gin or Old Monk and turn this into a lonesome movie night. Not that social distancing has given you another option.

Comrade In America

Comrade In America (CIA) got us so hooked that we couldn't stop talking about it for days. Directed by the iconic cinematographer and director Amal Neerad, CIA is set-up in Kerala. Aji (DQ) is a communist who hails from the Kerala Congress Party family. He falls in love with an NRI in his college and when she moves back to America, he decides to travel to the US to win her back. What follows is a risky adventure where he crosses the Indo-Mexico border, illegally, with a bunch of illegal immigrants. His imaginary conversations with Karl Marx and Lenin offer you some insights into his personality, although they get rather dull sometimes.

Karwaan

Don't you just love it when road-trips turn into self-discoveries? Karwaan is all that and more. Stuck in an IT job, Avinash (DQ) wishes to pursue photography but life and his dad don't support him well. He shares a rough relationship with his father and when he dies, Avinash travels with Irrfan Khan (who shines in this role) and Mithila. A roller coaster of emotions, this movie is a must-watch, and thanks to its music, it is more enjoyable.

Mahanati

It is a known fact that you cannot take your eyes off Keerthi Suresh in Mahanati but Dulquer (as Gemini Ganesan) makes it worth your time whenever he's on-screen. Directed by Nag Ashwin, this biopic pays a fitting homage to Savithri garu. This is also DQ's debut Telugu movie. Grab some tissue papers, snacks, and watch this movie with your family.

Charlie

Dulquer in the titular role — Charlie — is so cuckoo and precious. A happy-go-lucky gypsy, Charlie is all about experiences. When Parvathi Menon (a graphic artist) rents out a house (where Charlie lived earlier) she discovers a graphic novel with Charlie's story and she gets curious because the story is incomplete. In a quest to find him, she meets his friends and acquaintances, travels, and falls in love with him even before meeting him.

Kali

We give a 10 on 10 for Dulquer and Sai Pallavi's chemistry. Siddharth is a short-tempered man married to Anjali. Kali explores his strained relationship with his parents, and how he tries to overcome his anger with his wife's support. When the two take off on a road trip after a brief quarrel, they end up amid local fights on a highway dhaba. This is an action-drama so be prepared for some fight sequences and chases.
