#LBBPicks: The Big List Of Budget Bars In Town

Editors posted on 31 May

Whether it is drowning your sorrows or just having a jolly good time with your friends, everyone needs a well equipped bar for it {and a cheap one too}. We know, finding the right one for yourself can be quite a hassle {considering there is so much to choose from} so here is our handy guide of the cheapest bars/watering holes in the city.

Hauz Khas Social

Their time tested cosmopolitan retains its original charm, with added candy floss and orange fest for a kick you’d never expect while.

Their Blue and Red Pills comes in beakers with a syringe full of blue curacao and berries; pick the one you want {as the name suggests} and they’ll inject the cocktail with your choice. Try their towering LIITs, where you can choose from a variety of flavours or their combination of gin with Earl Grey tea.

What To Order: Old Smoke, Trip on the Drip

Casual Dining

9-A & 12, 3rd Floor, Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi

The Chatter House

On Monday, all their Margaritas are priced at INR 225 a pop, Tuesdays have great deals on a variety of alcohol throughout the day, and Thursdays are there to sip on some Jameson. Supplement your drinking with some of their jalapeno cheese balls with their special pesto dip.

What To Order: Aam Panna Vodka, Green Tea Bourbon Cooler

Epicuria Mall, Lower Ground Floor, Nehru Place, New Delhi

Summer House Cafe

While the food is nothing to write home about, we enjoy the electro-swing music nights they host over the weekend, and they’ve got an extensive and affordable menu of cocktails to with them, too. For a quiet drink or two, we’d suggest you visit them during the week; the weekend has more of a ‘grab a drink and move your hips’ kind of vibe!

What To Order: Mai Tai, Mint Julep

DDA Shopping Complex, 1st Floor, Aurobindo Place Road, Hauz Khas, New Delhi

Escape Terrace Bar Kitchen

We’re never quite sure if we’re going to get an evening of energetic Bollywood music or a more relaxed Sufi vibe here. We recommend the outdoor seating for a chilled-out evening. This little bar is far from high-maintenance, and might be just right for when we’re feeling that way, too.

What To Order: Tequilla Sunrise, Beer {any one of their fresh brews}

R-2, Level 2, DLF Galleria, DLF Phase 4, Gurgaon

This ahaata always beckons us after a long day of work, when some comfort food, a cocktail {or four} and the warmth of exposed red brick walls is all we want.

You can bring your own liquor in, or ask your server to run across and buy it for you. Almost as good as kicking back at home with a few friends, but without the added stress of playing host!

What To Order: Whatever you fancy from the theka

1, Yadav Market, Ardee City, Gurgaon

For days meant for long conversations with old friends, head to Harry’s. Their space is small but cosy, and the music adds character to your experience instead of overpowering it. Their drinks include traditionally mixed cocktails as well as their own concoctions.

What To Order: Tangerine Caipirojka, Orange and Green Tea Mojito

Shop 62, 2nd Floor, Khan Market, New Delhi

Their name indicates exactly what to expect at this joint; biryani and beer. We headed there with a few friends for the first time and discovered their beer bucket {five Kingfishers for INR 600} and polished off more than we’d care to admit.

For all beer lovers, they have your standard beers starting as low as INR 100, as well as draught beers. You can pick between a mug, pitcher or, if you’re feeling adventurous, the tower.

What To Order: Southern Ice Tea, Black Russian

Casual Dining

C-2, SDA Market, Opp. IIT Main Gate, Hauz Khas, New Delhi

Lanterns Kitchen & Bar

This is the kind of bar we’d head to when drinking in bulk in a large group. Their prices allow our wallets to heave a huge sigh of relief, and they’ve got a wide range of liquor {including draught beers} to try out.

It’s a little out of the way, but if you’re willing to go the distance, you’ll leave a happy camper with lots of juice in your belly.

What To Order: Mango Basil Freezer, Pinacolada

Rajindra Bhawan, 163/164, Near Rachna Picture Hall, Rajendra Place, New Delhi

Neighbourhood Bar & Grill

Tucked away behind a discreet door in the Sector 15 square {that’s the one behind Galaxy Hotel and next to Fabindia}, it sounds like the kind of place where everybody knows your name.

The menu lists the standard fare, but luckily whatever they do, they do it right.

What To Order: Gin Sling, Manhattan

SCO 37, HUDA Market, Part 2, Sector 15, Gurgaon

The wallet-friendly pricing, an exhaustive menu of Indian Chinese comfort food, and the dimly lit second floor, making it appropriate for all kinds of situations.

Expect to run into the regular family crowd that Defence Colony market is famous for, and expect to be fascinated as to how 4S seamlessly accommodates all demographics.

What To Order: Mojito, Beer

Casual Dining

A-26, Defence Colony Market, Defence Colony, New Delhi

Beer Cafe

The Beer Cafe should be first on your list for early evening drinks {the kind you have right after work}. Tucked away in an otherwise purely functional market, the Beer Cafe comes complete with a giant screen, every type of beer, and Indian appetisers to boot. Do not miss their masala peanuts and always order the giant beer dispenser.

Only downside? The seating is a tad cramped, so tables end up being too close together. But hey, alcohol is a great conversation starter.

What To Order: Heverlee Witte, Erdinger Dunkel

C-12, SDA Market, Hauz Khas, New Delhi

My Bar

We recommend bookmarking this one only if you’re with a large group of friends; it has the potential to get borderline seedy. Located in the heart of Connaught Place, My Bar is always crowded, and a wait to be seated is always on the menu. If you can see inside {dim lighting}, you’ll notice that the only attraction is possibly the alcohol rates.

What To Order: L.I.I.T, My Bar Overdose

Shop N-49, 2nd Floor, Connaught Place, New Delhi

Sam’s Cafe

On a massive terrace in the middle of Paharganj, Sam’s Cafe is reminiscent of a Goan shack with a relaxed vibe and you can ask for pretty much any rendition of what you see on the menu.

Sam’s keeps things simple; no cocktails or innovative shots here, just good ol’ alcohol in one of Delhi’s most iconic neighbourhoods.

What To Order: Margarita, Screw Driver

Vivek Hotel, Main Bazaar, Paharganj, New Delhi

1 Oak Cafe And Bar

Even though the name is ripped off from one of NYC’s most popular clubs, we were very happy to stumble upon this hidden gem. Tucked away under a flyover, 1 Oak is spread over two floors with outdoor and indoor seating sections. Wooden floors and furniture, it’s the perfect watering hole for when you want some privacy. Also, they serve hookahs, so really take advantage of that solitude.

What To Order: Peach Bellini, Redbull LIIT

Price: INR 700 for a round {for two}

Moolchand Flyover Complex, Defence Colony, New Delhi
