Ten Second Takeaway

College might be over, but you can still go back to the days of pigging out at the canteen. Presenting Malviya Nagar’s latest addition- The Delhi Canteen. Expect the regular canteen ka khana served with a twist and in a classier ambience.

Monty’s All Time Favourite, Hitler Ka Pulao, Caramellody

The canteen-like decor, and the use of colourful cylindrical tiffin boxes to serve some of the dishes

All that shines

The first thing you see on the wall is a big pink glowing heart, joined with a bade ee ki matra spelling out ‘Dilli’ oh-so-creatively. A large red scooter adorns one wall while another is completely dedicated to photographs and artwork. You can also indulge in some reading- simply pick up a book from the fairy-lights-embellished shelf.

Mix picks

2The menu might come across as a bit of a hodge-podge at first glance but take your time with the puns in the names {Ham Kisi Se Kam Nahi, Kaisadiya?, Curryuppa}, and the descriptions and you’ll realise it’s a selection of Italian, Mexican and Continental infused with Indian flavours.

We started with the Nacho Nacho which was a pile of nachos doused in sour cream, mint chutney and spices. This was followed by the Hitler Ka Pulao which is essentially a sausage biryani served in a typical Indian tiffin carrier. The Meaty Affaire {keema pizza} and Monty’s All Time Favourite {penne in a butter chicken sauce} were undoubtedly the highlight of the meal, resplendent in all their Punjabi-ness.

Sugar and salt

The dessert section in contrast is small, but offers winners like the Caramellody {salted caramel chocolate cake jar}; the salt in this, however, is strong and may require an acquired taste. They also have run-of-the-mill desserts such as the chocolate mousse.
