Think back to your worst baking misadventure - salt instead of sugar, leaving cookies in the oven for too long or the most frustrating one, deciding to bake something only to realise you don't have half of the ingredients at home and knowing your mom will have to spend the night pretending she loved that salty brownie (but really, she did love that you made an effort!)

Stop, we don't have time for these issues anymore! Which is why we decided to give dessert and baking pre-mixes a shot that were super easy and way more delicious than we expected. So whether you're is a baking newbie or someone who's a serious baker or just someone who's short on time or patience, check out these cake mixes and more that you can order online for your daily dose of sugar.

Doughnuts Mix By BawiWhisk

Donuts are hard, y'all. There's a bunch of different ingredients that go into making one successful donut and I'll be real, I do not have the attention span for it. BawiWhisk's pre-mix is handy 'cause everything's already mixed so you just have to follow the instructions on the back. One box makes a dozen donuts and I think that's a good number your Mom can share with the rest of the family (or for you to steal and have all alone at 3 AM while watching another season of The Office. Just me? Okay).

Vegan Banana Bread Mix By Plattered

If a home chef didn't make banana bread in lockdown, do they really count as a quarantine chef? That was a rhetorical question because, no, of course not. This vegan banana bread mix is a quick way to catch up, though, in case you forgot to put this in your baking list. It's sweetened with brown sugar and molasses so it's technically healthier, too.

They've also got a non-vegan, whole wheat version if you're not into veganism (or just really like your dairy, no judgement!)

Brownies are my ultimate comfort food dessert and also the one I've screwed up the most. With brownies, you've got to be super careful about the baking time, temperature, type of sugar, and I just hate an overcooked brownie. The Daily Gourmet's brownie mix is stress-free 'cause you just add eggs, water and butter and bake! Plus it's got chocolate chips in it that get so gooey and melty if you eat them while they're still warm (which you totally should!)

Not strictly just dessert but pancakes are as dessert-y as breakfast can get. These pancake pre-mixes are free from maida and both flavours were loved by kids and grownups. I just had to add an egg and some milk and mix it up. For post-dinner dessert pangs, top it up with chocolate sauce and ice-cream and don't forget the whipped cream (it would be a crime). I've also made these into waffles with my trusty waffle maker and had a successful brunch.

Okay, ya, fancy cakes are cool and all but there's a reason why chocolate cake is everyone's go-to when you need something everyone will love (it's called "Charlie & The Chocolate Factory" and not "Red Velvet Factory" for a reason.) With this pre-mix, you literally just add water and oil and bake to get a fudgy, moist and super rich chocolate cake. CCDS is also a really awesome brand to check out if you love to beautify your cakes with sprinkles and food gel colour.

Choco Chunk Cookie Mix By Plattered

If the only Sesame Street character you identified with was the Cookie Monster... well, same. While I appreciate store bought cookies as much as the next person, there's something about eating one that's just been baked (and not to mention how divine your kitchen smells) and dunking it in milk. This Plattered cookie mix makes 10 cookies that are ready in 20 minutes and devoured in 30 seconds. If your Mom loves tea and coffee, serve these cookies up with a cup!

If you're a chocolate addict like me, you might like the double choco chunk cookie mix even more. Or get both, I can't tell you what to do.

White Velvet Cupcake Mix By BawiWhisk

These white velvet cupcakes are awesome because you could literally make them so many ways, it's like potentially having 2-3 different flavoured cupcakes at once. Split the mix into 3 and add cocoa powder to one, red velvet food colouring to another and leave one vanilla and you have 3 flavours while only putting in effort for one batch. These can easily be made in the oven, pressure cooker or even an idli maker.

And from cupcakes to their so-called "less attractive" siblings (I'm so sorry muffins, I love you), The Daily Gourmet's blueberry muffin is whole wheat, filled with oats so you could even bake a batch for breakfast or Sunday brunch. You can also make these eggless by adding bananas in place of the eggs. The blueberry studded muffins feel like you just picked one up from a fancy bakery but you got an entire batch for the price of one muffin in store.

They've also got a double chocolate muffin mix in case you're still serious about ODing on chocolate. I don't blame you.

Pro-Tip

If you're ready to graduate from pre-mixes to baking from scratch, I've got a list of essential baking ingredients you can keep handy for 'em. Or if you're looking for more quick and easy (and yummy) breakfast options for brunch, check out this list. Plus, to sweeten up your desserts with things other than icing, we love these healthy butters (think PB, almond butter and more!)
