Why Cafe Chhajja Should Be Your Next Chill Sesh Spot

The information in this post might be outdated

Five floors up, amidst a residential area in a tiny galli, Cafe Chhajja is a rooftop cafe for all those who want to just lay back and spend some quality time with their friends. There’s mist fans, a dedicated kitchen staff and most importantly, no restrictions. It’s the ideal place for when you have a few hours to kill and your bank balance is approaching a big fat zero.

Here’s why we visit Cafe Chhajja.

Movie Nights

We managed to catch the screening of The Conjuring 1 on a Thursday night at the cafe. The large movie screen, the darkness {played up with fairy lights}, the numerous fans and plates of complimentary buttery popcorn made for the perfect setting. However, they’re not dabbling in just horror. They screen movies from different genres several times a week. Call them in advance to know which ones.

PS: We recommend carrying mosquito repellent. If you forget, you can always ask the cafe owners; they have tubes of Odomos lying around for anyone to use.

Beanbags

Because there are few things more satisfying than plonking yourself on a beanbag {with a beer perhaps?} and chit-chatting with your buds. We’re loving the bright orange ones Chhajja has chosen.

Comfort Food

The menu is a mish-mash of different things: From egg bhurji to pasta to rajma chawal to kathi rolls and chilli chicken, we feel like they’ve gone ahead and put in all the college favourites on one menu.  The food isn’t fancy and will in all likeliness remind you of ghar ka khana. Basically expect pasta in white sauce or red, and not Carbonara or Alfredo. Like we’re saying, it’s like chilling at a friend’s place.

You can also call for a hookah and puff the night away.

Music & Games

Although the usual music scene here is a mix of house and fusion, you’re more than welcome to plug in your devices and play your own. Yay. Plus they’ve got table tennis for when you’re tired of sitting on your ass on them beanbags.

BYOB

Our absolute favourite thing about this place is that we can bring our own drinks and not have to spend a bomb to get in a happy state of mind. And even if you can’t find chilled bottles, it’s cool – they’ll pop them in the fridge for you and serve it to you in glasses as and when you like.
