Shortcut

Canteen Till I Die is a new cafe in Satyaniketan, which offers the regular pasta, sandwiches, pizza and toasties but with a desi spin, and at prices which don’t even pinch the shallowest of wallets.

Its gigantic speaker which thinks it is a disco dancer {it lights up with every beat}

See You Crater

Walls randomly slashed to expose the bricks beneath, wooden low chairs and a grey wall embellished with mirrors and one-liners in places; Canteen Till I Die is a fun place to unwind at in between classes, or after college.

The seating is pretty basic – wooden chairs and benches; however, some of the benches are a tad too low or maybe that’s just #shortpeopleproblems. Might want to take your own cushion along if you fall in this category.

The menu seems to be a melange of comfort food inspired by college canteens, but done in a much prettier way and yes, it all tastes better too.

We sampled a range of things from the menu and we’re definitely going to be going back for the Canteen Chicken Burger, which is made with pao buns and is absolutely delish. A close second were the chicken wings done the south Indian way, with an infusion of karipatta. Both these dishes were served with a mildly spiced mint mayonnaise.

You’ll find a little sprinkle of spice in each dish. If you really want to jump on this bandwagon, the makhani sauce pasta might be right up your alley. The Three Cheese Lollipops were also pretty interesting and were somewhat like pizza trapped in small balls. We’re also intrigued by their take on Maggi-  they’ve got an Andhra version as well as an achari version.

We, however, weren’t super happy with the fish fingers {there was more batter than fish} and would have ideally replaced it with a toastie {butter chicken, maybe?}.

End {Or Start} With Paan

And no we’re not going to ask you to sit and chew on a betel leaf and then proceed to paint the town red. Canteen has a very interesting drink called Paan Gulkand which is ever so refreshing in the summer. If paan’s not quite your thing, the black lemonade {there’s Coke in here} is a beautiful option.

For a sweet fix, we’re loving the banana-stuffed fried pancake.

So, We’re Saying…

Canteen Till I Die is definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re a student or are just running low on dough {and as long as you’re not counting calories}.
