Cooks, Artists & Musicians, Open Up Your Home To Strangers & Get Paid For Hosting Them

A Bengaluru-based startup, Open Out, is a platform that curates food, art and design oriented experiences at people’s houses. You’re free to register as a host or a guest and if you choose to be the former, you’ll even get a token amount for sharing your talents and entertaining a cool bunch of strangers. And, in January, they’re coming to Delhi.

The man who started the venture, Arun Rafi, is as creative as he is accomodating. His vision is to let people open up their houses to {and share their stories with} like-minded people. They get to then make new friends, and also showcase their skills in an informal setup.

A Christmas bonfire on the terrace with mulled whiskey, where folks get to roast their own marshmallows, to rugby screenings or Japanese documentary screenings over Sushi, we’re loving the offbeat-bent to these meet-ups. High teas, iftars, seafood specials, John Mayer tribute gigs, storytelling and even Zentangles are all the themes that they’ve explored with folks around their hometown and Bombay and Pune.

You might have a very unique gift, but if you’re willing to share it with folks beyond your immediate friends and family, Open Out will be more than happy to partner. In fact, the model and how the evening/breakfast/dinner party will look like will be entirely dependent on the house host. These events are all ticketed, and after taking a small cut, the remaining sum goes to the host.

The tickets are usually priced between INR 1,000- 1,600. Typically, the group will also have about 10-15 guests. You can keep a track of all their events on their Facebook page, and also sign up as the organiser or an attendee.
