There’s nothing quite like a group of fellow workout buddies, coming together for one sweaty pursuit. If the gym, machines and weights aren’t your thing, here’s a list of high-energy, cardio centric group dance classes in South Delhi you can take, to help make getting fit a lot more fun.

A dance inspired fitness routine, it uses basic Latin American styles of dance, cha-cha, salsa and meringue {and depending on your instructor, Bollywood and Belly Dancing}, incorporating vigorous exercise routines. A Zumba class is intense {you can burn unto 800 calories a class}, and focuses on interval training {a mix of high-intensity movement alternated with more relaxed, low intensity routines}. Zumba succeeds where others fail, by virtue of its high-energy vibe, a commercial track list {so you can lip sync}, and multiple dance moves thrown in somewhere between 20 squats, so it doesn’t feel like a workout, until after you’re done! Zumba can be intimidating at first, since it might seem like everyone arrives knowing what to do, but stick it out and you’ll get the hang of it, since everything is choreographed in set repetitions and loops.

Most leading gyms offer Zumba classes as well, but taking them are subject to membership policies and club rules.

Stationary cycles just got new meaning. Spinning is an excellent cardio workout to burn calories fast, tone your legs and have your groin muscles hurt permanently. Spinning classes take place in groups, where everyone is perched on their own cycle, and the instructor takes you through a routine including sprints, hill climbs and other routines like interval and circuit training. A class usually lasts 50 minutes and is set to music.

Where you can go:

Club XCell | Their new {and currently only} outlet in Chhatarpur has a cycling studio located in the basement, dedicated to spinning classes. The best news is, since its not in the heart of the city, it offers the perfect amount of seclusion while working out, and you don’t have to be a member of the gym to sign up for classes.

Where9 Hans Building, 100ft Chatterpur Road

For a full class schedule and fee structure, click here.

Elementation Gym | You have to sign up as a member with the gym to be able to take a spinning class, but don’t write them off just yet. Since they’re not part of a giant gym chain, the membership fees won’t burn a hole in your pocket, and they’re willing to work around exactly what you’d like to do. They also offer ABT, aerobics, yoga and E core, so you can get full mileage out of your membership.

It’s ridiculously priced, not spoken about publicly and doesn’t entitle you to all membership privileges, but if you can’t commit and don’t mind spending the money, ask for this deal. We can safely say it’s worth it.
