Dehradun’s Got A Cafe With Upcycled Everything & Their Chai & Momos Are Epic

Cafe Recycle is where Dehradun’s cool cats are hanging. It’s quiet, overlooks the valley and the decor is all upcycled. Plus, their chai (they start at INR 30) has so many fans already.

What Makes It Awesome

Doon residents, Swati and Archana, were both creatively inclined and passionate about food. Their tiffin service had people polishing off the dabbas, but their dreams grew out of the box at some point into a booming business.

While they wanted to stick to doing the quintessential mountain meals, they didn’t want the cafe to become yet another place to just chill at. There needed to be a bigger idea, and they turned to playing with the decor. So, everything you see is made from discarded things–think tyre tables, old benches and drum seating.

It’s also enveloped in the quiet and the comforting aroma of chai. The menu is a mish-mash of shakes, mocktails, coffee, chai and some Chinese food and sandwiches. The hot-sellers happen to be the many types of tea (including ginger, lemon and the like) and momos. Good news for us hill lovers—a hearty meal here won’t cost more than INR 300 per person, even if you ate from noon to dusk. While you’re devouring that plate of steaming hot Maggi (there’s something about it being made in the hills, and you know it), you get to gaze at stunning views.

What Could Be Better

The decor and the views are pretty amazing, but we wouldn't make the trip all the way if it's just about the food.

Pro Tip

A good landmark to use to find it would be to ask for Shiv Mandir on the Mussoorie road.
