Indulge in Lamb Shank & Honey Cocktails at Hive

Ten-Second Takeaway

Workspace/cafe by day, restaurant/speakeasy by night, Hive in Green Park Market offers drinks, shisha and great food to boot.

The Buzz around this Hive

Doubling up as a workspace during the day {free Wi-Fi}, Hive has a great vibe. The interiors are thoughtfully done – eclectic aesthetics, modern wall art playing on octagonal motifs, monocycle bar stools, and a beautiful conservatory-style roof with a water trickle.

While the cocktail menu is currently WIP {and we hear honey infused drinks shall soon be on offer}, a chilled beer is good company for the crowd-pleasing Naan Pizza. We devoured the earthy roasted mushrooms and goat cheese bruschetta, but the calamari and chorizo tapas are let downs.

Moderately happy with the appetisers, we move on to the bigger plates, which blew our minds. The Roast Chicken is pretty as a picture, with its perfect crispy skin and an indulgent meaty gravy to boot. We also sampled the barbeque pork ribs, which ease off the bone at a light touch, but the accompanying french fries could do with an upswing. The Baked Sea Bass with hummus and tahini is an acquired taste, but scores high on the health quotient, and is served with a lovely quinoa tabbouleh.

However, the showstopper and heart-stealer of the night was the Lamb Shank Braised in Red Wine. Hive’s signature dish, and for good reason. The meat is slow cooked, tender, and in harmony with the wine sauce, served on a luxurious bed of buttery mashed potatoes.

The portions are great for the price, and it will be worth seeing whether Hive can win the consistency game.

So when you're looking for a relaxed evening away from the maddening HKV crowd, Hive is the place to be{e) at.
