Shortcut

Big Cats Forest Camp, in Sirmaur, is far far away from the city’s mad pollution and chaos. It strategically occupies a spot in the middle of the forest and overlooks the Churdhar sanctuary. If you’re looking for a quick one night two days kind of retreat, this one’s open till December end {right before it starts to snow}.

Perfect Peak Me Up

Perched at a height of 8,000 ft, Big Cats is indeed located at a very scenic vantage point. From the photos, it’s easy to tell that this place is untainted by overpopulation and has still managed to keep the chips-packet-littering-tourists away. It’s lush, quiet and utterly beautiful.

We’re told that the one night stay costs INR 1,600 here inclusive of three buffet meals and evening snacks. The cost also includes a short 3km trek and the stay at the camp, of course. On most days, they have impromptu jams and we really don’t mind a bit of live music thrown in with the BBQ.

There’s enough happening if you’re in for the two-day plan but we really suggest making a rambling week-long trip out of this. Make pit-stops at relatives/friends at Ambala or Karnal. Spend a night at Solan and make sure you check out this lovely vegan cafe with amazing dosas and qahwa in Shimla {yes, yes, it’s kinda hard to avoid going that side altogether}. Finally, move on to Big Cat and find yourself in the middle of a very peaceful forest.

So, We're Saying...

If you’re driving down, they can also take you to a nearby waterfall. In fact, if you’re keen on making it a long-ish camping expedition, they’re open to that as well. Of course, they tell us that the prices come down as the duration of the stay gets bigger.
