Roots Hostel, Sainik Farms, New Delhi

Shortcut

Unlike most backpacker hostels, Roots Hostel in Sainik Farms, is clean, comfy and adorably kitschy. It’s in a quiet part of town and surrounded by greenery. The best part? The dorm beds start at a mere INR 250 a night.

Clean, Safe & Comfy

We all have friends who are super-demanding, and when they come to Delhi, it means we end up spending sleepless nights planning out their itinerary. And {most importantly} figuring out a safe place for them to stay where they won’t be too far from civilisation but won’t end up spending a bomb either. Trying to work with these limitations landed us at Roots.

Apart from the budget aspect, other amenities like fast Wi-Fi, a garden, a chill rooftop and a cafe make sure that no one has to step out of the hostel to get through the day, if they don’t want to. There’s a hammock and a gift shop to while away time, or a fitness room and a billiards table for the easily bored. It’s also close to touristy places like Qutub Minar, India Gate, Tughlaqabad Fort and such, you know, some sight seeing?

The cook, Deepak, is not just known for his popular breakfast options, but also for his ability to make room for last-minute requests. Guests have asked for vegan food and he’s never refused. The host, Sameer is equally approachable {if not more} and is full of friendly advice, stories and insights that can help your friend plan his/her Dilli darshan better {super-helpful on those rare occasions you can’t leave work early}. If you’re coming around the time a big festival is happening, you can also count on the hostel folks making it special for everyone staying with them {See photos of their Christmas party celebrations and you’ll know}.
