LBB's Guide To Republic Day 2016

The information in this post might be outdated

Don't know how exactly to celebrate Republic Day? We've got a few things you could do.

Republic Day parade

Is there any other way to start Republic Day? Get into the patriotic mood by attending the parade, paying homage to the martyrs who died for the country and watching the fleets of soldiers from the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force march with decided pride. What we’re most excited about this year? The furry four-legged faujis who’ll march with their human counterparts after 26 years.

Have a picnic at a park

gar-copyRepublic Day is an important day to be truly grateful for all that we have. We’re telling you to get together with your family and friends and hit up all of Delhi’s beautiful picnic spots and parks, enjoy the weather we’re having, and reflect on the parade.

Time for lunch

No matter what day it is, you gotta eat. We’ve picked out a few spots that are having deals for the day, or just are winning spots to break bread.

Chili’s: Not your most patriotic spot, but what can we say? We dig their fajitas and burgers. The 67% discount they have for lunch on the day isn’t discouraging either.

Views in and around Delhi

panoramic_tughlak_fortIt’s a holiday, take a long drive with someone who doesn’t mind the silence and check out these stellar views. It’ll make for some Instagram worthy photographs and you’ll get to switch up your regular routine. What more can you ask for?

Go for an event

If you’re in the mood for some jazz music then you can head over to the always delightful Piano Man Jazz Club for a gig by pianist and conductor Sara Yun. Perhaps music isn’t your thing? Theatre afficionados can check out Draupadi, a musical, starring Himani Shivpuri and Rakesh Bedi at Kamani Auditorium in Mandi House.

Dinner deals

After a long day, starting with the parade early in the morning, you are probably ready to replenish your dwindling energy with some well-deserved feasting. Republic Day offers us all the chance to grab some great dinner deals at restaurant’s around the city. Royal China at Nehru Place is celebrating Republic Day by offering tri-colour themed unlimited dim sum {roughly INR 1,400}! Not to be undone, Jamie’s Italian and Jamie’s Pizzeria are both offering tri-coloured dishes as part of R Day celebrations. If you’re in the mood for something a little spicier, Nagaland Kitchen {one of our favs} is hosting an all day Amrosu Soup Festival, showcasing exotic soups with a Naga twist.

Midnight desserts

elmaAfter all that feasting you might want to be heading home, but don’t you dare! It is Republic Day, the day our constitution was enacted, the day we were officially lords of our own futures. You must celebrate! And what better way to celebrate than to have some late night dessert? While a couple of the stores are not sure if they will be open on R-Day, most are open at their regular times, and at worst, open around the afternoon.

While we’re tempted to get a Wafflebay & Yogurtbay waffle stick, we’re not sure if they will be open all evening, so we might just kick it old school and get some Nirula’s Hot Chocolate Fudge. Never disappoints!
