Our Guide To 25 Of Delhi's Markets And The Days They're Shut

Our favourite haunt on any given day, the place remains closed on Monday. Although, on the other hand, the best day to go is on Tuesday, since all the new stock comes in. If you do end up going on a Monday, you're sure to spot second-hand items for 20 bucks or less!

Nearest Metro Station: Sarojini Nagar Market on the pink line, and INA on the yellow line 

From Desi Vibes to Kaffiiaa to Barista, we are bowled over by Noida’s Sector 18 market. They have a lot of electronic stores and other pop-ups, which were typically closed on Tuesdays but switched to Sundays.

One of the most fun markets to traverse is the Tibetan Market in Janpath where you'll spot great options for shoes, clothes, and  home decor stuff too, but, unfortunately, you’ll find it shut on Sundays. Some of the restaurants in Connaught Place remain closed in the mornings with only a few opening up in the evenings, so if you have plans, call up the restaurants before visiting.

Nearest Metro Station: Janpath on the violet line 

Chandni Chowk is one market where you can find everything, from fabrics and jewellery to stationery, spices and more. We particularly love the book bazaar on Nai Sadak! Also, do check out Chor Bazaar in the morning. Make sure to bargain and avoid going during the second half of the day to avoid the rush. Read everything about Chandni Chowk here.

Khan Market, world's 20th most expensive retail location, is home to one of the finest brands. Everything from OGAAN to Amrapali, the stores are beautifully spread over the lanes of the market. Providing a mix of things. It is the perfect place for shopping after a quick brunch with your friends. Though the restaurants are usually open (yay! More Big Chill for us), you’ll find some of the smaller stalls and stores closed on Sunday.

Nearest Metro Station: Khan Market on the violet line 

Our favourite when it comes to shopping on tiny student budgets, Kamla Nagar is the place where new restaurants on Hudson lane constantly pop up. For shopping you'll find a lot of store with your shein, sarojini nagar style clothes (obviously catering to the students more)  No point going here on a Monday, though—almost everything is closed.

Nearest Metro Station: GTB Nagar on the yellow line 

GK II M block market, is always Bursting with restaurants, coffee and dessert hotspots, branded clothing stores and home decor stores, it definitely is one of the best markets to get all your needs fulfilled. From Iconic Nik Bakers where you can gobble up on some yum food, to Nalli's for silk sarees, you've got everything here. 

Nearest Metro Station: Greater Kailash on the magenta line, East Of Kailash on the violet line

This market is one disorganised Delhi shopping hubs, where you have to look closely for what you need, because there’s just so much to choose from! However, we heard that Jwala Heri can be a lot of fun too.

Nearest Metro Station: Paschim Vihar on the green line

This is one of the oldest markets of the city that keeps us going back for the chaos, Punjabi tailoring shops and jewellery stores. Further down, you'll find Gaffar market has a bunch of imported goods to check out, especially thriving in all things electronic. Karol Bagh FTW!

Usually, Nehru Place is closed on Sundays, but you can find some loitering salesmen with cables, microphones, as well as some smaller shops that will sell you phone covers. The majority of the electronic work is stalled on Sunday. If you're someone who's looking for fabrics, this market also has some nice stores for that, also shut on Sundays.

While college students keep hanging out around the area even when it’s closed, if you’re looking for a grocery or fruit guy, they’ll probably be at home sleeping on a Tuesday. Do note that there's not much to do here except probably grab a bite to eat.

Nearest Metro Station: Kailash Colony on the violet line 

Asia’s largest place for salwars and suits, we keep going for the summery, vibrant prints and the shops full of fancy kolhapuris and flats. Not just that, Lajpat can be super economical when it comes to buying quality linen for your home. You’ll only find the churanwala and restaurants open in Lajpat Nagar on a Mondays though.

LBB Tip: Love juttis but too lazy to buy 'em from Lajpat? Hit up these online stores for affordable juttis and kohlapuris instead.

This sweet little market has stayed put, irrespective of the number of malls that have come and gone. We love to talk about the new things that keep making their way here. But we suggest a day other than Tuesday to visit. you can get the whole scoop here, before visiting.

Nearest Metro Station: Phase 1 on the rapid metro 

Planning to spruce up the house? A new couch, maybe? Well, you’ll get all of that and more (basically, everything related to furniture) at the Kirti Nagar furniture market. Don’t head there on a Monday, though. You’ll only find disappointment, not new furniture.

The West Delhi hub for all things shopping, Rajouri Garden is a market full of pedestrians with a profusion of shopping bags in hand. There’s no point going there on a Monday—you’ll only find closed shutters and your shopping dreams shattered (not totally, though, some of the bigger stores might still be open.)

If you’re feeling like diving into some jalebi, halwa, and other finger-licking street food, Chawri Bazaar is your respite. The market is also famous for its horde of wedding card printers, so if you’re a bride or groom to be, you might want to stay back and enjoy your Sunday elsewhere.

Pack up fancy footwear and go with the rugged ones, please! Laxmi Nagar market is a crowded affair when it comes to street food and shopping. The East Delhi market has been undergoing a makeover with the likes of QD's opening up shop. You don’t want to go here on a Monday, though.

The fancy buildings and the shimmery lights of South Ex market really make for a sight when you’re out there. You’ll find some amazing eateries if hunger pangs are starting to creep in. But if you’re planning on going for a shopping spree, you’d better avoid Mondays. The food joints remain open, though.

Nearest Metro Station: South Extension on the pink line

When it comes to this little market, don’t be fooled by its size. You’ll find electronic stores, food havens (especially street food), repair centres, fabric stores and shopping joints—this market has it all.

LBB Tip: Try Peshawar’s aloo puri for a breakfast kick. The market does remain shut on Mondays, so make sure your plans are sorted.

A flush with hookah bars, tiny cafes, grocery stores, and fruit vendors, East Patel Nagar market never seems to be empty. You’ll find it deserted on Mondays, so don’t get make any concrete plans just yet.

Nearest Metro Station: Patel Nagar on the blue line 

Endless rows of designer stores and expert tailors populate this little market. You'll also find a bunch of amazing cafes to unwind at after your shopping day. Looking for Indian-wear designers for that perfect Wedding attire, Shahpur Jat is the place to be. Don't make any plans on a Sunday, though–you'll be wasting the trip.

If you've taken on the daunting task of heading to the overpopulated mecca of Sadar Bazaar to buy, well, literally anything, make sure it's not on a Sunday. Close to the Cantt, this place has a lot to offer if you're looking for military attire and other related gear.

Nearest Metro Station: Pulbangash on the red line 

One of the largest textile markets in Asia, Gandhi Nagar is also super affordable. You can shop for dupattas, fabrics, and much more.

Nearest Metro Station: Seelampur on the red line 

Noida’s Atta Market in Sector 27 is synonymous with affordability. And who doesn’t love affordable? Head here for a lot of women's wear including wedding and bridal, street-food, and the works!

Head over here for the best of the best second-hand, and first-hand furniture. If you're someone who loves to get their furniture customised, or made to your liking, this is the place to be! You'll also spot a ton of vintage knick knacks and mirrors here.
