Label Rinchen has a range of clothing that celebrates Indian fabrics and crafts traditions but take on contemporary silhouettes. In this sense, it’s found a way to remain relevant without losing out on bagru and indigo-loving people who are too clumsy with the whole nine yards.

Let's Go Indigo

Dresses, palazzos, capes, tops, kurtas, dresses and even shoes and jewellery, Rinchen is passionate about preserving age-old crafts. In fact, when we visited the workshop-cum-store, we realised that everything from dyeing to stitching happens right there, under her watchful eye. The many folks working there are skilled at stitching cloth flowers and executing every experimental drape that she comes up with.

If you decide to drop by in person, you’ll find one room filled till the lofts with fabrics and supplies and another one with a huge rack full of just clothes. Every size and length is available and we have our heart set on the boho, oversized indigo dresses.

Like something you see but the sleeves are too long? They make tiny alterations without as much as a raised eyebrow. Want something stitched from scratch? She’ll make it happen from start to finish. We’ve actually been toying with the idea of a shibori lehenga and now, we we’re hitting her up with our design brief and saving up INR 8k for this. We’re told she can give you saris too.

Next up will be their line of indigo dyed sneakers and shibori ballerinas.

Capes Of Good Hope

The brand is a year old and has already been doing the rounds at exhibitions. We saw it at Dastkar and at some other pop-up and decided to get to the root of it. Rinchen retails out of Jaypore but honestly, visiting the studio was a great experience.

We saw a silk scarf being dip dyed into three different patterns {you can learn it at one of the shibori workshops they intend on hosting soon} and the way the designs came to life was stunning.

The designs we loved are still fresh in our mind so you might bump into us soon as we browse and {actually} buy. In case you’re wondering, the bagru and dabu print dresses start at INR 2,500 and maxis go up to INR 3,500. The tops start at INR 1,500.

Finding the tiny space will not be easy. So, you can speak to Rinchen in advance to fix an appointment so she knows when to expect you. Additionally, you can reach Nehru Apartments’ gate no. 3 and whatsapp call her for further directions.
