Little Black Bytes Book | Delhi in Under 100 words

The information in this post might be outdated

Byte sized information about the city, all in under a 100 words.

Drone Delivery | We’re still wondering why, given India could use an all hands on deck model, but Amazon plans to have India as their launch-pad for drone delivery of packages. The US based retailer will start deliveries by drones or unmanned aerial vehicles, not in the US, but in Mumbai and Bangalore. They’re expected to start as early as Diwali, so gambling stakes aren’t the only things that will be sky high.

Delhi Fines | The North Delhi Municipal Corporation is planning on implementing a fine for citizens throwing trash in public places. Fines are to range from INR 100-500, and this new move is part of a 100-day drive on sanitation cum cleanliness, aimed at keeping the city clean during Diwali. Three cheers for the initiative, but we have to ask, whose going to be watching the streets for litterers?

Indian Ad Guidelines | Someone should have hauled some of our ad agencies up a while ago, for their blatant use of Blackface. But, there’s good news for us all. The Advertising Standards Council of India issues a set of guidelines specifically for ads endorsing skin lighting and fairness products, which broadly stipulate that ads can no longer enforce stigmas against dark skinned individuals. Woops King Khan, you’ll have to rely on all your other endorsements now. Tragic.

Delhi University Admissions | Delhi University made a momentous decision in the recent past - to introduce the ‘third gender’ category in its postgraduate application forms. The third gender option comes under the OBC category on application forms for PG courses. Although we disagree with the premise that they should be categorized at all, here’s hoping the staff and students are sensitised, and equipped to handle the implications.

Gap in the Market | US apparel giant GAP comes to town! They’ve entered into a franchise agreement with Arvind Lifestyle, and about 40 stores are expected to open over the next 5 years. Although we’ve been hearing the same rumours about H and M for a while now, this one seems sealed with a more pronounced air of certainty. And no, it does not stand for Gay and Proud.
