Make Merry Bengalis! Nalen Gur Now Comes in Tubes

The information in this post might be outdated

For those who are wondering what the hell we are talking about, Nalen Gur is a date palm jaggery that is usually only available in winters. It has a beautiful aftertaste and is nothing like the usual ones found in the market.

The beloved Nalen Gur is available at Biswa Bangla—a project started by CM Mamata Banerjee. This winter treat is now available in its liquid forms and lasts more than 90 days. Bengalis all over the world use this to make an umpteen number of sweetmeats including shondeshpayeshroshogollas and pancakes.

Nalen Gur comes in two variants—Patali {solid cake like bricks} and Jhola {semi-liquid syrup} and both are the apples of every Bengali’s eye. The liquid form is now going to be packaged in red tubes instead of the usual plastic bags and is aimed at all those probashi Bengalis living outside the state and the country. We can’t wait to have some with our daily bread and milk. YUM!

Delhi’s Biswa Bangla is slated to get these tubes soon. Stay tuned folks!
