Delhiites are going through an organic food craze! And why should they not? French Farms was started by Roger Langbour roughly 20 years ago. Langbour had an interesting journey, one that culminated at setting up French Farms. He began as an officer in the French Air Force, and served a post at the French Embassy in Delhi in the 1970s. He proceeded to fall in love with the country. Though he harboured a deep adoration for India, he was and is still not impressed with the quality of meat available at large public markets. So in the 90’s, Langbour decided to start his own organic farm. He left India for a short time and worked on a farm back in France. There he learned the tricks and techniques of the trade, and headed back to India. He bought a few acres of land in Gurgaon, and officially began French Farms.
Today, his farm raises a variety of livestock including Muscovy and Peking ducks, quail, guinea fowl, pheasants, chicken, turkey, and pigs. He also grows organic vegetables such as carrots, baby carrots, savoy cabbage, red raddish, black raddish, a variety of lettuce, herbs, fennel, spring onions, asparagus and different kind of tomatoes.
While his food products come with a higher price tag than most other suppliers, he has developed a loyal following. Along with major commercial businesses like the Neemrana Hotels, Langbour receives orders from the ever growing expat population in the Delhi NCR region. His products are also stocked at organic grocery stores such as Altitude in Delhi.
