Pack a Bit of Persia for Your Kitchen, at Foodhall

The information in this post might be outdated

They’ve gone the Oriental route previously and they’ve mixed it up Mexican style too, and this month, Foodhall is bringing the middle-east to you, with the Persian Festival.

And just like every time, it’s not just about getting to the venue and devouring the food, {although it is okay to do that too}; here, you can get a taste of some authentic Persian flavours by trying your hands at cooking some food and taking home ingredients to have an Iranian-inspired cookout every once in a while.

Cook It Like the Iranians

Foodhall’s got dedicated demo counters where you can come and sample some authentic Iranian dishes. Not just that though—you can even try your hands at cooking these dishes yourself. Persian berry and rice pilaf, eggplant & tomato stew, dill & fava bean rice, and ghormeh sabzi {a flavourful stew of spinach, beans, parsley, and lemon} are some of the dishes you can master here.

What about the meat, you ask? You can sample some mouth-watering jujeh kebabs {chicken kebabs seasoned with saffron and orange zest} and kebab koobideh {minced meat kebab made with onions and parsley} too. Careful—don’t let the drool hit the keyboard.

The Sweet Stuff

Komaj

With three dedicated counters - bakery, patisserie, and middle-eastern sweets - you can be rest assured that all of you with a sweet tooth will be well taken care of. You could try all that they’ve got, but if we were to pick a few, we’d say definitely try the komaj {a sweet bun stuffed with bananas and dates}, Sholeh Zard {a rose water and saffron infused rice pudding}, and the Caramel Date Fingers. Yum.

Blendin’ It Good

Once your tummies are satisfied with all the amazing food, you can fill your shopping bags with all the ingredients you need to replicate what you ate back in your own kitchen. From fruit and vegetables central to Persian cooking, like eggplants, zucchini, pomegranates, and sour oranges, herbs like mint, thyme, tarragon, and dill, and spice blends such as advieh {Persian garam masala} and Saudi baharat {an all-purpose spice blend}, you’ll find plenty to stock up on here.
