Bookworms of the world, unite! Penguin Random House India is back for its 13th edition of the Penguin Annual Lecture, this time with award-winning author Sudha Murty. She will be speaking on ‘Storytelling and Social Change: How Literature Influences Who We Are and What We Do’ on 11th December, 2019.
The Padma Shri awardee, who writes in both English and Kannada, has been able to set up over 60,000 libraries across Karnataka to encourage the shared love for reading. Don’t you wonder what goes on in the head of someone who is a brilliant author, engineering professor and chairperson of the Infosys Foundation? So, if you have any questions about science, literature, philanthropy, education- this lecture would be your nerd haven!
Speaking about her interest in the topic, Mrs Murty said, “Writing is a medium of my expression and experience. I have been blessed that my personal experiences have touched the hearts of readers. In my life’s journey of literature and social work, I have unexpectedly found that
reading has sparked an interest in some men, women and even children to begin to make a
difference in a small way. To me, that is the real success of my work.”
The Penguin Annual Lecture is considered one of the most important events of the year in the literary world. In the past, it has hosted best-selling and beloved authors like Nobel prize-winning author Amartya Sen, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, former president APJ Abdul Kalam, and historian and philosopher Professor Yuval Noah Harari among many others. You wouldn’t want to miss this one.
