Dining Down South with Peninsular Kitchen

The one thing we love about Delhi is its ability to zone in to a gap, and then create a multitude of solutions for it. There were no reasonable late-night delivery joints, and look, now our city has an entire fleet. Another gap we felt was the lack of Keralite fare and in the last six months, we’ve seen positive changes on that front. The newest player in the game is Peninsular Kitchen.

It joins Chili’s, Indigo Delicatessen and Punjabi by Nature in Ambience Mall, representing a rich piece of our country. They do Keralite, Goan and South Indian, but Keralite is definitely their strong suit. The decor is divine; all warm lighting, with accents of white and blue. There are also glimpses of raw wood texture, which we think complements the overall mood. Our favourite part is the boat-shaped tables, reminiscent of a houseboat gently rocking back and forth in Kerala backwaters.

Of course, as a restaurant representing South India, we’re eager to try their prawns, in their various avatars; we hear they’ve got the basics down pat as well. This means their preparation of appams and accompanying stews is absolutely on-point. As for refreshments alongside your meal, the menu features intriguing concoctions, such as the Peninsular Sunset, which we understand is their take on the classic Pina Colada {it has coconut cream, pineapple juice, kokum extract and grenadine.}

The cherry on our sundae though, is the sound of their coastal thali, which attempts to give the diner a holistic insight into the spectrum of flavours that Keralite cuisine has to offer. We’re headed down south soon; we suggest you hop to it as well!
