What Makes It Awesome

We've all seen the Red Fort in its glorious self ever since we were children. It has been around since the 17th century, and is one of the best examples of Indo-Islamic architecture. Created with intricate details, the Red Fort was commissioned to be built by the Mughal Empror Shah Jahan. The Red Fort or Lal Qila as we know it, must be visited if you're a true Dilliwaala at heart.

Moreover, the monument's renovation and reconstruction has brought about some interesting changes, so one should definitely go ahead and take a stroll through Red Fort. Some of the places you shouldn't miss here are the Diwan-I-Khas and Meena Bazaar.

Diwan-I-khas is a charming, white chamber inside the Red Fort, and literally means the Hall of Private Audiences. Historically speaking, Mughal emperor Akbar used this space to receive courtiers and state guests. This pretty sub-monument has 5 openings or exits. Along with this, Diwan-I-Khas houses the 'Takht-Te-Taus,'  which is basically a jewel encrusted peacock throne that Shah Jahan commissioned to be built.

We also love the Meena Bazaar AKA Chatta Chowk market at the Lahori Gate entrance (especially because of its historical significance). The place has been there since Shah Jahan's time and currently, is a great place to shop for affordable handicrafts, shawls and costume jewellery. You can get a virtual tour of the place here.

An entry ticket to the Red Fort will cost you around INR 50. If you wish to take a look at the newly-constructed museums (that depict India's war history over the past 160 years), you'll have to pay around INR 80.

What Could Be Better

Nothing really, the place has been renovated in the best possible way.
