Some good news our way! The Lok Sabha on Friday passed the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Bill 2016, just two days after Rajya Sabha passed it with amendments. The new bill aims at securing the rights and entitlement of differently-abled citizens.
This bill recognizes more disabilities compared to the 1995 Act, and anyone who discriminates against the differently-abled will either serve a two-year jail term or pay a maximum fine of INR 5 lakh. Another awesome thing about this bill? They’ve bumped up the job reservations for persons with disabilities and promises to make better provisions, accessibility-wise, for them.
Cheers to the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for making this possible!
