Root’d is a modest yet tastefully done cafe in the inner lanes of Hauz Khas which does ‘progressive vegetarian food.’ Confused? Imagine shakarkandi with Mexican spices, grilled fruit, sweet pizza and lots of seeds and quinoa thrown in.

What's Cooking?

The menu is just a two-page affair but it still might take you a while to zero in on what you want to order. We love that they’ve given a pretty great description of each dish and what all goes into it. There’s all day breakfast, sweet and savoury waffles, comfort food like Mac n Cheese, mock meats, spaghetti, pasta, pizza and salads.

We were happy to report, after several bites, that everything is fresh and clearly prepared with a lot of thought. The Shakarkandi With Mexican Spices comprises two whole sweet potatoes topped with spices and dollops of sour cream. The Grilled Watermelon comes glazed in balsamic vinegar with feta and jalapenos- giving it a fun tang. And the Mushroom Trio pizza is TDF.

Next on our to-try list: Breakfast Pizza, Shepherd’s Pie.

What Else?

They’ve also got fruit-flavoured sodas {we had the blackcurrant which tasted a bit like Hubba Bubba but in a good way}, cold-pressed juices and the regular bottled beverages.

It’s a great place to drop into for some quality vegetarian food which is as fancy as it is delicious.
