It is one of the oldest forms of textile decoration, yet Ikat still holds the attention of many. We never stopped loving it, and it never stopped being reinvented, finding new ways to surprise us. In Indian or Western wear, in its varied silhouettes, the Ikat design manages to work its magic every time; it's no wonder Jaypore's recent collaboration with designer Sonica Kapur pays homage to this ever versatile weave.

The creation of this collection has had a poetic undercurrent to it; each textile has been hand-made by the artisans of Pochampally, a village in Andhra Pradesh. The yarn has been tie- dyed before weaving and each piece is perfectly understated in its opulence. Sonica Kapur has looked to sustain the handicrafts industry with this collection, but her pieces are nothing if not contemporary. Well-fitted cuts and attractive designs make the pieces multifaceted - we love the fact they make the transition from work-wear to an outfit for an evening out with friends effortlessly.

The collection carries tunics, shirts, palazzo pants and our favourite - the semi-formal jacket {the woven design makes them casual, while the tailoring helps retain their work-wear aesthetic}. Ikat carries serious signature-look-for-your-closet potential; with the right piece, you won't even need any accessories!

Notes in our Little Black Book |

Jaypore just launched a new collection, collaborating with design Sonica Kapur to weave an ode to everyone's favourite design- Ikat. Well-tailored standalone pieces, the collection is full of could-be signature jackets, tunics and shirts. The target is women 25 up, and the pieces are versatile enough to work all the way to 45-50. Each garment is hand-dyed and then consequently, hand-woven so you know they're one of a kind.
