Renovated and restored, Sir Ram Nath Chopra’s beautiful family home in Srinagar is steeped in history and, now, open, to travelers and explorers.

The Holiday Of Our Dreams

Knighted by the British for his immense contribution to pharmacology, Sir Ram Nath Chopra played host to Kashmiri royalty, ministers and industrialists at his beautiful home, Awakening, built in 1938. Situated on Chopra Lane, the house stands tall and proud in one of the few remaining heritage neighbourhoods in Srinagar, located within an army cantonment.

Today, this home has been restored as a set of beautiful service apartments and en-suite bedrooms, with views of the snow-capped Pir Panjal mountain range and the sound of the River Jhelum rushing by.

Start Planning

If you’d like to make a solo trip, as we definitely would, stay in one of the property’s six bedrooms, adorned with carved woodwork and Kashmiri textiles. A family can be accommodated in the gorgeous two, or three-bedroom apartments. Don’t stay cooped up though – take a walk in the gorgeous plum orchards and stop to admire the fig and cherry trees.

Breakfast is served at Awakening, but we’d suggest sampling local fare at other meal times and there are plenty of options around the property itself.

So, We’re Saying…

Split your time between sightseeing {Dal Lake is only 4 kms away from Awakening}, golfing and quietly celebrating your trip to, what is most definitely, heaven on Earth. Check out the website here.
