Staying Cool 101: Here Are 5 Summer Beauty Essentials Every Girl Should Have In Her Bag

Summer is the trickiest time to figure out your beauty basics because you’re always in danger of your face melting off. Staying fresh and light is key, so these are the five basics every girl should have in her bag at all times to make that happen.

Face Mists

These guys are a great, refreshing way to spritz a little life into yourself on a day where the heat is really getting you down. You should ideally buy a small, pocket sized one in a light bottle, so it takes up very little bag space {and also, doesn’t add weight}. This Mogra one by Kama Ayurveda is really refreshing, and, if Mogra is not your jam, they have other lovely options, like Lavender and Rose as well.

Matte, Nude Lipstick

Nude is a go-to summer lip colour because it just works so well for the season – it’s light, unobtrusive, and isn’t prone to melting and bleeding as much a pop colour would. Get something that works for your colouring, and is maybe just one shade darker {so your lips don’t merge with your face}. Nyx does a great range called Lingerie, with a pretty solid selection of nudes ranging from dark-nudes to blush-nudes, and light, non-sticky textures with staying power. Alternatively, M·A·C, though more expensive, is always a safe bet, with better colour payoff than most brands.

A Light, Floral Fragrance

Retire your musks and sugary scents for a while – in summer, it will legitimately weigh you down. Choose a light, floral scent that you can spray twice a day instead. A 30ml may not seem like a penny-wise investment, but it is the easiest to carry, so consider that when you’re choosing one. The light notes of Calvin Klein’s Sheer Beauty are very summer-perfect, while the green-tea infused notes of Elizabeth Arden Green Tea are a season classic you should own anyway – the entire range is varied and interesting enough to fit any perfume personality to a T.

A Lightweight Concealer Stick

Carrying tubes and bottles of concealer is so 2000-and-late. A stick is your best bet – minimal space needed, and barely any weight added to your bag. However, size isn’t the only thing that matters – choose one that’s less studio-strength and more on the light side, with a sheer texture so that it doesn’t look cake-y on your summer skin {which will definitely get greasier than usual}. I’ve had success with the Benefit Boiing Hydrating Concealers because they fit both criteria, and have a hydrating element to them as well.

Dry Shampoo

Summer is a synonym for ‘greasy hair’. You don’t always have the luxury of washing your hair the minute it starts to bother you with its excess oil collection, and that’s where the champion that is dry shampoo jumps in to save the day. Bblunt makes a killer one, but if you’d like more options, we have a list that can sort you out, no problem!
