The always fun, playful and engaging Mamagoto has recently introduced a new dessert menu known as ‘Mama’s sweet spot’. A friend and I decided to go sample their desserts as dinner.
Die hard fans of anything peanut, we started with the 'Country style peanut-butter cheesecake'. The ‘meal’ was off with a bang! The dense but light creamy peanut goodness lay upon a crumbly base that had tiny bits of peanuts too! It was topped with a thin layer of glossy sweet chocolate ganache. Everything was so perfectly balanced- sweet and salty, gooey and crunchy - our knees went weak.
This was followed by ‘The smoking panda’s lemon and coconut tart’. More like a closed pie, the tart consisted of lemon curd and grated coconut. The pastry was crumbly and buttery. The flavours were very interesting, they made you dig into the dish repeatedly. However, after a couple of bites, it felt like there may have been a touch too much lemon zest {bitterness} and salt {saltyness}.
We had the flourless chocolate cake next, which was simply, a flourless chocolate cake; safe, warm and chocolaty.
The dessert menu was losing its momentum and the peanut-butter cheesecake was unmatched, UNTIL the Crunchy Nutella {eggless} Mousse. It was the kind of dish you dream of when you crave sweet comfort. Smooth and light, topped with caramel, crumbled biscuit and treacle, the mousse was laced with nostalgia and loveliness.
The highlights {as you may have figured} were the cheesecake and the mousse. Overall, everything was a logical and welcome extension to the existing menu; I would order both to share as they are heavy and rich; but I imagine, the perfect end to a typical visit to Mamagoto.
