30’s is an extremely ambiguous age, don’t you think? I mean you are not old enough to cancel plans and call it in on Fridays, but you aren’t young enough to party all night and show up for a morning meeting without baggy eyes as well. It’s complicated, basically! Maintaining a healthy lifestyle thus becomes extremely important. On top of it, what if I tell you that our muscle mass and strength also tends to decline after the age of 30 by around 3-8% per decade? Yes, it’s true. What Is It?

The RiseUp Challenge is based on the Stand Up test, a medical test for evaluation of the muscular strength of lower extremities. You can easily do it in the comfort of your home. All you need to do is:

1) Sit on a stable chair (around 40cm in height from the ground) and lift one leg up

2) Keep your hands on your shoulders 

3) Rise up from the chair on your one leg

If you are able to do so, then you’re muscle health is in good shape. If not, maybe it’s time to add some protein to your diet and some exercise too. This initiative by Horlicks Protein+ aims to educate consumers on their Muscle Health, urging them to take action and keep up with life post 30.

OK, why should I do it?

For starters, if your remember what your biology teachers said in school, muscles form a large part of our body. They are important for optimal function and loss in the muscle mass can impact mobility, strength, energy levels and even organ function. In fact, the numbers say that 9 out of 10 Indians are at a risk of protein deficiency which means a higher incidence of poor muscle health in the country, as muscles are made from protein. Therefore unlike Trump’s tweets, muscle health shouldn’t go untracked as it does in most of our cases.
