Ten-Second Takeaway

The Ultimate Travelling Camp, a luxury camping company, has multiple mobile camps in the north of India. One of these camps {the Chamba Camp, Thiksey} offers a lavish, nomadic experience in Ladakh.

What To Expect

The Champa Camp at Thiksey creates a unique, curated luxury adventure for travellers. Expect extravagant tents, private decks, stories swapped over dinner by the fire and a personal butler service.

The camp has four booking options—three, four, five and seven nights—with specific itineraries for each. We shall focus on the seven-night itinerary to get a better understanding of what is on offer.

Beginning An Adventure

On the first day, you arrive at Leh and check into the camp at Thiksey. Rest, acclimatise, and plan your itinerary with specialists at the camp.

Day two will involve some scrumptious food and a tour of the old city of Leh. Visit the imposing Leh Palace, check out the Ladakh Arts and Media Organisation, and explore heritage houses like the Munshi House. You’ll soon find yourself in the bazaars; end your tour at the Shanti Stupa overlooking the city.

Explore the relics of the Thiksey Monastery on the morning of the third day, followed by a relaxing breakfast at the camp or other optional activities. In the evening, explore the monastic sites of Ladakh including the famous Alchi Monastery {a trip you could club with an optional rafting excursion}.

Exploring The Area

On day four, take a drive to the Numbra Valley through the Khardung La Pass and get to see the Indus valley. After checking into your new camp at Diskit, visit the village of Hundar, the Chamba Gompa and various other sites.

The fifth day investigates the world of the Balti Dynasty with a visit to the village of Turtuk and surrounding areas.

Returning To Leh

Day six will begin with a double-humped camel ride followed by a drive back to Leh and checking back into the Chamba camp. On the seventh and final day, you can explore the village of Thiksey at your leisure or head to Pangong Lake {optional} with its breathtaking view and picturesque setting.

If you’re in the mood for some exploration but want to do it in style, this is the camping experience for you. Remember, you can always add or remove optional excursions from your itinerary, specialising it for you and your group.
