Travelling doesn’t always have to be hectic; it can also be relaxing, healthy and rejuvenating. Check out these getaway spots just a stone’s throw away from India for a wholesome experience you’d want to keep going back to.

Como Shambhala Estate, Bali

If money isn’t an object, I highly recommend this wellness sanctuary. It’s perfect for a honeymoon, big celebration or just a getaway to detox. The two restaurants, Glow and Kudus House {Indonesian} are raw-focused, and have foods that are free from dairy, gluten and sugar. Conceptualised by chef Amanda Gale, with Neil Perry and in consultation with resident nutritionist Eve Persak, the menu is specially curated and changes often.

You can hear the Ayung river nearby, and the estate has natural waterfalls that you can bathe and relax in post your treks. Como Shambhala cuisine is healthy food at its finest, and I’m still dreaming of the grain-free desserts. If you have time, you should pay a visit to the spa and book their signature Shambhala treatment that will alleviate any soreness you might have from the travelling.

If you want to experience all that Como Shambhala Estate has to offer but are on a budget, you can also choose to stay at Uma Ubud, and book your meals here. I am still dreaming about the treks down to the riverbed followed by second helpings of the mulberry sorbet with a cashew-coconut mousse.

Shanti Maurice A Nira Resort, Mauritius

I was here in March, and I’ve got to say that the award winning Nira Spa at Shanti Maurice in Mauritius is breathtakingly beautiful and lives up to its name. Its large expanse is dotted with water bodies and enough foliage, so you feel like you are in a sanctuary and not inside a hotel.

I highly recommend the Choorna Swedana and the signature Shanti Fusion to get the best of both worlds. The food at this resort is delicious and can be tailored to suit your dietary preferences, so you don’t derail your diet. Also, with the reputation of being the country with the second cleanest air in the world, you can be rest assured that you are in a great place to promote healing and recovery. There are plenty of sports and activities on land and in the water for those so inclined, but if you want to wake up early and do morning yoga before you take a dip in the ocean, that’s okay with me, too.

Point Yamu, Thailand

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Phuket lies a Como Hotel gem called the Point Yamu. The food at Nahmya, the Thai restaurant, is wholesome, satisfying and delicious. You can eat at any of the restaurants, or order from the Como Shambhala menu, and be assured that you’ll still be making progress on your diet while on holiday.

I was exhausted from the multiple flights back and forth and all the early morning shoots, so I checked myself in for the deep-tissue massage, which was absolutely divine. By the end of it, I stood taller and my neck, shoulders and upper back felt less tense. The cuisine has a very strong influence here, and you can choose to be strict and stick to a diet of almond lattes, matcha milk and grilled fish, or leave a little room for indulgences.

You have access to the Como Shambhala spa both at the hotel and the beach-club {accessible by speedboat}. The resort has a list of complimentary activities offered to in-house guests all around the week, including Thai kick-boxing, group yoga, Pilates and water sports. If you are an early riser, I’d say you sneak out of the room for some exercise early in the morning so you have all of the rest of the day to relax with your travel buddies.
