Introduction

We all want to get away for the upcoming long weekends and make Christmas and New Year’s Eve a memorable affair. While we can’t always have luxurious getaways, here are some budget beaches to hit for some much-needed vitamin sea.

Gokarna

Gokarna is the new Goa. With an eclectic crowd of hippies, college kids and locals, this place is where you’d want to go for an economical (yet fun) trip. There are plenty of budget hotels and beach cabins you can stay at, and eating out and drinking is cheap too. Their sunsets are truly stunning and you wouldn’t want to miss out on them.

Cherai Beach, Kerala

While Kerala has a number of pristine beaches, Cherai beach is small, lesser known and your ideal destination for surfing, swimming and sunbathing. The beach is clean and very few people know about it. So, plop yourself on the sand and be a beach bum for a while.

Panambur Beach-Mangalore

With cute beach resorts and serene surroundings, Panambur beach in Mangalore has water sports, you can go dolphin sighting and enjoy the fine Mangalorean cuisine. They have plenty of economical home-stays and hotels for backpackers.

Malpe Beach-Karnataka

A beach with free wifi; need we say more? Malpe beach in Karnataka is clean, easy to reach and doesn’t get a tonne of visitors. Go for a ferry ride or indulge in water sports; there are plenty of places around to grab some authentic sea food. Stores nearby are famous for aromatic sandalwood oil, so make sure you check that out.

Utorda-Goa

While Goa may seem expensive, there are a lot of really low-budget beaches you can have fun at. Pretty and quiet, Utorda in South Goa is the very definition of off-beat. There are beach shacks to stay at and King’s beer for INR 30 a pop; seems like our ideal vacay.
