Woodchuck Does Sandwiches Of All Kinds, Including Ice Cream

Ten-Second Takeaway

You know there’s something new in HKV every time you brave the crowds and head here. Our last visit had us munching on a variety of sandwiches, some coffee and some corn sticks at Woodchuck.

Around The World With Sandwiches

Everything about Woodchuck is well-designed, right from their board, the teal wooden stools, the cutesy menu and their food boxes, which open up and act as plates too.

The menu itself isn’t super vast, but includes a fair variety of sandwiches including Banh Mis {from Vietnam}, Gatsby {from South Africa}, Reuben {from Native America} and Gyro {from Greece}. Needless to say, it can take a few moments to zero in on what you really really want. There’s even a Philadelphia Cheesesteak variant {but alas, no tenderloin}.

What We Ate

We started with a small box {yep, not plate} of baby corn sticks, which were essentially the Continental version of golden fried baby corn, and although a little soggy, tasted pretty damn good.

This was followed by the Elementary Pork Banh Mi which was missing the traditional Vietnamese baguette, but the fried pork, sauces and yellow peppers made up for it. Plus the bread was pretty soft. We also tried the Juicy Eggplant and Zucchini Gyro. This was basically a pita wrap comprising falafel-like chunks made up of zucchini and yes, juicy eggplant. It was pretty taste on the whole but not as filling as the banh mi.

The best part however came toward the end – Shortbread Ice Cream Sandwich. Vanilla ice cream wedged between two giant shortbread biscuits with chocolate chips thrown in. Delicious.

So, We're Saying...

Woodchuck is definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re a sammich enthusiast.
