Once upon a time, the brains behind Tabula Rasa, Shalom and Chi got talking with the star Chef of Olive. And they decided Delhi needed a place where everything – right from the menu and ambience to the music and seating – be as much fun as it should be.

It was going to be a tall order, considering the gastronomic explosion the city has seen, but, splendidly, have they delivered on their word! And they’ve also managed to subtly pay tribute to the legendary Beatles’ drummer. Always trust a Beatles’ fan to know what fun is.

The wings’ section is the place to start with: one can choose from a serving of 4 to 30 pieces slathered in 13 hot to ‘suicidal hot’ sauces. Our picks were the Honey Barbeque, Chipotle, Asian Blaster, Da Bomb and Pain 100%, ranked in ascending order of ‘burn-your-tongueness’.

Wisdom {or pain} suggests that the Amrood Chat mocktail and the Berry Ahoy Shake are the best accoutrements as you sink deeper into the funky furniture. The creatively named Cruise Lee {tenderloin} and Sacky Chan {chicken} burgers, served with chili fries, fresh mustard paste and ketchup add a dimension of heartiness to the meal. The Carbonara pasta is a safe bet too.

For those working on a summer body, the Mary Poppins pizza and seasonal salad should suffice.

Turn to the toffee pudding if you're looking to end the meal on a high.

Given the experimental nature of the management, the menu will get quirkier, with a 'wings and beer combo' on the cards {liquor license is awaited}. And should you still find yourself contemplating a visit, here’s what John Lennon would have said: “Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?”

All in all Zingo Star delivers the same thing The Beatles talked about: unpretentious enjoyment.
