Collect Trash & Trade It For Free Drinks At Baga, Calangute & Other Goa Beaches

If you’re planning a Goa vacation anytime till April, you could be a part of a really cool cleanliness campaign that’s targeted towards tidying up the Candolim-Baga beach stretch. TeraMeraBeach, an initiative that was launched last season, by Drishti Marine, saw a lot of participation and support from tourists who lent a willing hand to clean up their favourite beaches. Since the idea has always been to raise awareness by the way of music and art, this year, they’re coming up with a full-fledged bar made from waste where beach bums will be able to change trash they collect from the beach for free drinks. In short, trash equals cash. How cool is that?!

The Waste Bar will be set up across popular North Goa beaches and they’ll announce venues over the next few days. People can then land up between 4–6pm at these pop-up bars and trade cigarette butts, bottle caps and plastic straws for beverages and sundowners.

The first edition kicked off at Zanzibar at Baga and Drishti Marine and Goa Tourism are positive that this drive will help spread the word about waste segregation. After all, trash is valuable and nothing reinforces it better than a Waste Bar that takes trash as currency for drinks.

Wondering how the currency translates? Well, to give you an idea, 20 cigarette butts, 10 bottle caps or 5 used straws will get you a beer or a cocktail. So, see you at the beach? See you holding that free beer and doing some good?
