Slow Travel FTW: Explore Goa's Islands & Villages On A Bicycle With CyclingZens

Wouldn’t it be great to be able to wander around Goa on a cycle and soak up the heritage, ride through beaches or around the Western Ghats, all on your own pace? CyclingZens, a three-year-old establishment, which curates bicycling tours in and around Goa, remains one of the best, most leisurely ways to sight-see.

    What Makes It Awesome

CyclingZens was the brainchild of Rohan Nagarkar, who was soon joined in his mission by Peter. Both of them brought their zeal and start-up learnings into making CyclingZens a success story. Here, you can now choose a bike and pick a terrain and let the #goalife seep into your pores, while you ride through the lush terrains in the monsoons. (Yes, they’re cycling through the rains!)

At CyclingZens they organise guided tours of Chorao Island, Fort Aguada, Parra backroads, and the recent addition being a ride to the Chapora Fort (don’t be fooled by the crowds, the terrain is quite a climb). These tours are a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture, and experience the sights and sounds of quintessential Goa. They also have special (longer) tours across North and South Goa routes and even Mumbai, so if you’re a cycling enthusiast, you know what to do! Their bikes are in top-notch condition, something that Rohan and Peter pay a lot of attention to and you can choose from electric bicycles, to geared MTBs to single-speed hybrid ones.

The bikes are maintained by a super efficient staff that manages regular upkeep and repairs and are also available for rent on a monthly or weekly basis. The cost of these tours starts at INR 1,250 for an island cycling tour, while the electric bicycles are available for rent for a INR 4,000 a month.

We hear that they have recently opened a store in Arpora – while the tour through the Parra backroads goes through here, it is also the one stop shop for bicycle repairs and purchases.
