River View & Seafood: We're Digging The Food At This New Goan Restaurant

Shortcut

Just 5 minutes away from the madhouse that is the main Candolim area, lies this restaurant that has brought the local boy back home after making it big out of Goa. Chef Rohan D’Souza is today one of the most well known Chefs, who runs successful restaurants like Nom Nom, Estella in Mumbai and Goa has finally got a chance to be able to indulge in his cooking here, with The Lazy Goose.

What Makes It Awesome?

We would have gone here just for the food, but the fact that The Lazy Goose lies on the flowing banks of the Nerul river is an added bonus. For a lot of old timers, they may have been there when it used to be Amigos and had lovely home cooked food. The Lazy Goose has stayed true to its origins and serves some delicious Goan Seafood, but with Chef Rohan’s imaginative and innovative twists.

Enter the restaurant and you can’t help notice the old wooden fishing boat fixed on the beams of the ceiling. After taking a table overlooking the river, we started off with these delightful Prawns Al Ajilio that were delicious. Chef Rohan himself claimed that if he had to choose his favourite dish here, then it would be the crabs, so the Butter Chilly Garlic Crabs is what we tried out next. They came in the open crab shells, with the flavoured crab meat all ready to be scooped out. The food here has kept his ethos of mixing local cuisine with international styles and flavours. They even have meat preparations, of which the Vietnamese Pork Rolls were to die for. There are plenty of vegetarian options too, and the grilled Cottage Cheese & Mushroom patties are just one fine example on offer. They have a special 20 year old ‘Classics by Amigos’ menu, too.

Pro-Tip

It can get a little warm in the day time if the cool river breeze dies, but we think it is a perfect spot for a lazy lunch. You could even start your sundowner here that continues into dinner. They also have live music on select days of the week.
