Make A Day Trip To Chorla Ghat & Enjoy Waterfalls & Treks In All Their Glory

What Makes It Awesome

Chorla Ghat may not be on your usual Goa travel itinerary, but trust us if you’re looking to rejuvenate your senses and recharge your batteries, a one-day trip to the ghats could be exactly what you need. Located very interestingly in the intersection of three states — Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka, just about some 50 kilometres from Panjim, Chorla Ghat with its hills and waterfalls is a world away from beaches and parties that Goa has come to be synonymous with.

In fact the drive to the destination is as stunning as the destination itself. While Chorla Ghat itself is nestled in the Sahyadri mountain range, the ride takes you through expansive fields, lakes and quaint old bridges — and teleports you to a different world altogether — a world where the din of the tourists fade, and lush greenery and the mellifluous chirping of birds takes over.

While you can take a ride to Chorla Ghat any time of the year, our recommendation would be to do this during the monsoons or right after they’ve ended. The ghat is a part of the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary, and is home to several hundred species of exotic flora and fauna, making it a paradise for bird-watchers.

The main attraction of the area is the Anjunem Dam which is located along the fringes of the Sanquelim-Belgaum roadway. The dam lies is the Sylvan valley and holds this magical mystical charm. Take a dip in the natural pool — surrounded by the majestic green mountains, the swim will enliven your soul.

The area also boasts of several small and big waterfalls — a small trek will lead you to the Twin Vajra Waterfalls, an unforgettable experience. You can drive back the same day, or take a day and stay back at the Wildernest Nature Resort — there are many many jungle walks, treks, foot trails and machaans, and trust us this is a side of Goa like you’d have never seen before.

On the way back you can take the road towards Bicholim and stop at the Amthane Dam, a secluded, serene area in Goa, and enjoy an afternoon along the canal, soaking in the tranquility.
