To get you warmed up…

Cafes in Gurgaon remind you very often - you are likely to find a fulfilling meal in what could be the study of a condo apartment and that for us, adds to the quaintness. Enter Pintxo {pronounced: pincho}, a Spanish tapas café with more entrees than tapas, but still!

The DL on the ambiance

The ambiance is cosy for the lack of space mainly, but it fits in a few tables and manages to add a few Spanish accents here and there. What’s incredible is the size of the kitchen vis a vis the size of the menu. People come to Pintxo for the unusual menu {considering the otherwise standard fare available in and around Galleria}.

What we ate, and how we felt…

Start with the Gazpacho Andaluz {if you must!}; though we’re not big on cold soups, this one has all the flavours worked out, so for a summer afternoon, it’s fairly decent respite in the form of food. There is a Watermelon Salad with Bamboo Shoots; we had to research the use of bamboo shoot in Spanish food and found that they’re called ‘brotes’ and are commonly used in salad preps. Since we had heard a lot about the sandwiches here, we had to indulge in the Slow Roast Pork Belly and found it to be filling, moist, and the pork was beautifully cooked through. Eat this sandwich fast; the moisture can mess with the integrity, leaving you with a bit of a mush in your hands! You could skip the sandwiches and move straight to the Tapas, in fact make a meal out of the selection. Here’s what we recommend - Spicy Chicken Wings, cause they are HOT, as in really hot. The Prawn wrapped with Bacon and Fried Calamari in Romesco Sauce make for our other favourites, and if you prefer to add a veggie dish, then all we could find worth their while were the Mushroom Croquettes.

We weren’t too keen on the pastas, probably added to expand the menu, but do try the Paella; the chicken one is as close to the Spanish version as it gets {at least in a standalone restaurant}. The main course {entrée} menu is pretty expansive too, so if you can muster the courage to eat some more, we say dig in to the Australian Lamb Chops or Belgian Pork Chops; can’t say if either hail from the said source, but they’re well done nonetheless.

Dessert is skippable, though on the days they have Flan, it can be a good way to close the meal! Incidentally, they’re heralded for their Sangria, even though it's sans liquor, it’s a good add on to the piquant wings.
