Shortcut

With a vast menu comprising Indian and Chinese fare, retro music {which switches to Bollywood on weekends} and pints of beer starting at INR 99, we’re bookmarking Talli Singh for an evening of drinking with old buddies.

Must Eat

They have largely Indian and Chinese on the menu. Try the Laksa or crystal dim sums, prawn tempura or vegetables crispy Mongolian. Dal makhani and paneer lababdar were good, as was the goat curry—the mutton was very tender and it felt like a few hours of cooking had gone into it. This food comes from Diwan, their restaurant upstairs.

For dessert, keep it simple and sweet with the beautifully textured phirni.

Must Drink

They use a lot of natural ingredients in their cocktails. Cointreaupolitan was especially good {Cointreau + cranberry juice + lemon}. You could also try the Pomegranate and Basil Martini for a fresh taste of summer.

What We Loved

The ambience really appealed to us—the decor has been done in a way that the space comes across as a cross between a pub and a family restaurant. Ideal for any type of group, really.

They are also trying to be innovative with their homemade kulfi that comes topped with whipped cream and caramel popcorn. And they’ve got Naanza, which is essentially a naan sprinkled with pizza toppings.

What Didn’t Impress Us

The vegetarian biryani had an overpowering kewra taste and the sticky chicken fingers were very sweet—not very agreeable to spice-seeking Indian palates.

What Is The Best Time To Visit?

Anytime unless you’re bringing kids. In which case, lunch might be a better idea than dinner, as they aren’t allowed in the basement post 7pm.

Anything Else?

We quite like the logo of Talli Singh; it’s a desi version of Johnny Walker—our very own Keshto Mukerjee—since owner and chef Mahinder Singh Chikara a.k.a. Bobby is a huge fan.

#LBBTip

If you’re going in a large-ish group, it may be worth your while to book their private enclosed area. Also, stay tuned for their Sufi nights, ladies nights, and video nights where they’ll also have special offers on drinks.
