What Makes It Awesome

Papercutting may bring back fond memories of grade school crafts but what Neetu Sam is doing is a far cry from such designs that will leave you mesmerised. Born and brought up in Warangal, this 27-year-old Psaligraphy artist had always been artistically inclined, right from her childhood. But she also wanted to fulfill her parents' dream of her completing the graduation in engineering. So finally after the completion, she embarked on her journey that she wanted to create, i.e. to do something creative.

How did it begin? One day while scrolling through Facebook, she stumbled upon some beautiful pictures made from paper by a UK based artist, Suzy Taylor. She got curious and discovered that this form is called Psaligraphy. She contacted her and took some guidance on how surgical scalpels are used to carve the designs. The tricky part was to master the kind of paper that had to be used. She experimented for a while. After five years of dedication and detailing to this craft of cutting paper aesthetically, you’ll see the result on her Instagram account @abrowngirlbasket. From taking an hour to cut a letter to cutting a freaking design in 10 minutes, she has come a long way.

Pro-Tip

She is planning to conduct workshops soon, you'll get the updates on her page. Plus, she, along with her friends, came up with Seher, an initiative to bring the culture of pure art to the city. It is a platform for learning and building a strong community of performance and visual artists under one roof.
