Aloo Poshto, Ilish Machh & Mangsho: Head To This Restaurant In Kukatpally For Bengali Dishes
What Makes It Awesome
Walk into the restaurant and get engulfed in heady aromas wafting from the kitchen. Check out the colourful walls with the artwork of Howrah Bridge, illustrations of men and women in traditional Bengali outfits. With simple seating of cane chairs and tables with plush cushions thrown around, you can feel at home. Fall in love with their interiors that are decked with a gramophone, books, clocks, rustic wooden windows, and walls full of pictures and paintings (we’re loving the framed photograph of Tagore). We say, sit, take in the charm of the restaurant, and proceed for a full-on Bengali feast.
We began our meal with Beguni (batter fried eggplant) and Fish Kabiraji — a fish cutlet that is coated with beaten egg, breadcrumbs and then fried. We loved both the dishes and decided to order them home (Nabanno does home delivery too). In the main course, we picked Aloo Posto, Chholar Dal, Ilish Er Tak, and Radha Ballavi. We loved our Posto to bits but weren’t fans of the dal. The Ilish and its tangy flavour get an ecstatic nod from us. With desserts like Roshogolla, Lau Er Payesh, our tastebuds found their soul mate. But we’d really love some Mishti Doi on the menu. Also, the best thing about Nabanno is their extensive menu with dishes like Narkel Postor Bora, Fish Chop, Deem Chingri, Muri Ghonto, Aar Jhol, Dak Bungalow Chicken, and more. These will keep us hooked on them for days to come.
We’re also looking at their unlimited thali — Jamai Ador (considered as a feast cooked to pamper a son-in-law) to take care of our cravings next time.
