On World Theatre Day, Watch This Globally Acclaimed Iranian Play With No Fixed Script Or Actors

Shreya posted on 26th March

What Is It?

White Rabbit, Red Rabbit is the brainchild of Nassim Soleimanpour, an Iranian playwright. On World Theatre Day {Tuesday, March 27}  — witness this globally recognised play that has been performed by over a 1,000 different actors in over 25 languages. Hyderabad, behold, For Break A Leg, a non-profit theatre initiative is bringing this play to a stage near you.

Who Is It For?

This is a unique theatre experience that demonstrates the power of storytelling. An absurdist adventure, as it has been described, the play has no director, and no rehearsals. In fact, the script is handed to the actor when he enters the stage. Besides, it is brought to life by a new actor every single time. Eminent actors like James Roday and Nancy Travis have performed this show and it has gathered audiences in New York City, London, and closer home in Mumbai and Bengaluru too but no one is allowed to talk about it. It starts off on a silly and comical note, and an enticing story builds up over the course of this one-hour play. If you are a theatre lover, someone who is thrilled about new experiences or simply to be a part of a well-kept secret — this one-of-a-kind show is a must watch for you.

Why Should I Go For It?

Through his compelling writing, Soleimanpour {who had been forbidden to leave Iran} has amplified his voice via the plethora of actors all over the globe. He takes both the actor and the audience on an exploration with this purist theatre. This show, we hear, will make you question pretty much everything you’ve ever known. And for those of you who’re broke — you can relax and rejoice. This is a free event. So go on this unusual journey and do not tell anyone about it.
