Mum's The Word: 6 Things To Do To Make Mother's Day Memorable

Mother’s Day falls on Sunday this year and it’s the perfect opportunity to do something special with your mum! Here are a few ways you could celebrate the day with the perfect mother-daughter dates.

Go On A Gallery Crawl

Art isn’t just for art geeks. Whether your mom’s an art lover or a collector, spend some time strolling through galleries and pick up original works for your walls together.

Check our gallery crawl guide for more info.

Brunch With Mum

Kenilworth’s Aromas has also curated a lavish buffet brunch to pamper your mother for just INR 1,299 plus taxes. It’s on from 12pm onwards. So be there on time.

Or hit up JW Marriott and treat your mother to an afternoon of mouthwatering food, beers, sangria and unlimited select beverages. They have a special 25% discount at JW Kitchen. More here.

Next Up, A Pamper Session

Mom deserves a massage, and you know that. Keeping that in mind, have a joint spa session with her to help her and yourself to a much-needed pampering session. Pravada Day Spa {the branch located adjacent to Paris Cafe in Alipore} is one of the few places in Kolkata which has completely nailed their massage techniques. Sessions are 30, 45 and 60 minutes in duration and range between INR 600+ to INR 1,200+. Or hit up O2 Spa for a 30-minute foot reflexology session (INR 1200+). Check here for more.

Create Something Together

Spend quality time creating something together. Head out to Art Rickshaw for a special sculpting and pottery session which they are organising for you and mom. Check here for more info.

Or sign up for a calligraphy class and learn to pen beautiful lines like a pro at this studio in Ballygunge.

Tea For Two

Stepping into the delightful The Tea Place By Manjushree and you will feel like Lady Mary having high tea in Downton Abbey. The two-floor tea boutique reminds us of old-fashioned English high teas with finger sandwiches and dainty china cups. They have a huge collection of teas to choose from — Darjeeling, white and green tea, oolong, and teas from China, Japan and Nepal. They prices begin from INR 150 {for one carafe which has enough for two cups}. A haven for those who love chai and good company, it’s a great opportunity to spend with mom.

Of if your mom prefers coffee, head out to Artsy, Kolkata’s first art cafe serving great food and tasteful art. They are one of the few cafes (or is it the only one?) serving Blue Tokai coffee, one of the best we have had in a long while. It’s cool, the bright blue tones are calming and unlike other cafes, it’s quiet.

Go On An Art & Shopping Trail

Need some retail and art therapy all at once? Head over to The Z’s Precinct, an art gallery-museum-store all rolled into one! This beautiful white mansion showcases art and fashion by artists from various parts of the globe, making it the ultimate hunt for art lovers from across the city!

More info here. And on their FB page here.
