Ramen, Waffles And Cheesecakes: This Cosy Book Cafe Is Where We Hang Out When In Gangtok
What Makes It Awesome
Walk in and you feel like you are in a corner of your own house (that is if you are a book addict like us). Colourful shelves heave with books and are interspersed by brightly-hued seating arrangements. It's like a reading space with a stunning view of the mountains when you look out of the window. The keep lots of children’s books and toy figures (from Harry Potter, Game of Thrones etc) as well. So if you are bringing along young ones, they won't get bored or tetchy.
The owner makes or supervises the food. We loved the 'comfort food' range - which includes ramen bowls, bibimbap, stewed beef and rice, and the quintessential Sikkimese broth, cauri. You can have the bangers and mash with light-as-air choco-chip pancakes or waffles for a filling breakfast. The peri peri chicken wings have the right portion of spice to awaken your palate. Looking for a smoothie to take along with you on a morning run? Ask for the green juice one.
The restaurant is owned and run by Kunzang Chuki Denzongpa who is an English Honors graduate from Delhi University. After working a while as a content editor, she joined a culinary school and eventually decided to open a cafe that would reflect her two loves - books and food.
What Could Be Better
It's a tad small so you may have to wait for space when it gets busy.
The best part is the books can also be borrowed.
