There are always a few rare restaurants that serve food so good and service so personal, that more than great food, it's the experience that has a lasting impact! Thakali in Gangtok defines exactly this essence. It was raining pretty heavily in Gangtok, but we took our chances and went to MG Marg. We had been wanting to go to Thakali since we arrived in the city. We were greeted warmly and ordered ourselves a Chicken thali and Pork choila.
Our server was a young girl with a warm smile who got our order surprisingly quickly. The thali had Thakali dal which was amazing. Our favourites were the aloo tareko and golbera ko achaar. The Chicken and the Pork cholia paired well with the rice. We ordered refills to literally everything and stuffed ourselves to the brim. We left with a smile on our faces and our bellies full.
