The second most important festival in the Chinese calendar (their new year is the first) is the Dragon Boat Festival. Yauatcha is celebrating throughout June with a special spread of traditional staples like sticky rice and zongzi (rice cakes).
Yauatcha's Celebrating The Dragon Boat Festival With A Special Spread
Sticky Rice & Zongzi
Besides the boat race, an important part of the mythological story attached to the festival is the rice cakes made of sticky rice. To celebrate this grand festival, Yauatcha’s chef Raymond has curated a special spread that not only features sticky rice, but also the traditional zongzi (rice dumplings/cakes). The colourful sticky rice carrot roll is a treat to the eye as well to the tastebuds, and the lotus leaf-wrapped rice cake topped with prawn and mushroom had us asking for more. But it was the crispy John Dory served with olive vegetables that won our hearts.
For main course, we had gorgeously aromatic beetroot and jasmine rice with paired with prawns and edamame in toban sauce for a delicious balance of flavours. Or you could try the mushroom pakchoi stir fry in oyster sauce – the heady flavours will blow your mind.
The meal would be incomplete if you don’t try the dessert. A mango and chocolate mousse cake served with sauvignon blanc-infused sorbet and mango coulis, this dessert is the best way to sign off a festive meal.
