If you’re someone who likes to feel the pulse of a city, this is the walk for you. Chitpore Road is said to be older than Calcutta itself. Under the East India Company, this part of the city was known as “native” or “black” town. You will  stroll through Kumartuli, the hub of idol making, and the flower markets by the ghats of the Hooghly river {do look up to see the magnificent Howrah Bridge here}. You also will visit some of the oldest surviving temples in the city, as well as the Sobhabazar Rajbari, one of the oldest zamindari mansions in Kolkata. Chitpore Road was also the hub of printing in those days and you’ll get to see old printing presses and get familiar with Bengali literature of the 19th and 20th century.
